ABSTRACT

To solve the problems that most of multipurpose care systems that have been developed are expensive, equipment-bloated and can use only at home, while other portable mobile monitoring systems have sole function，an intelligent monitoring system for the elderly based on Android smartphone is designed and realized. The system mainly consisted of three major functional modules, which included fall detection module, heart rate detection module, mapping location module. The shape similarity of resultant acceleration amplitude area was proposed to distinguish falling-action and higher strength daily activities, the method of maximum classes’square error was used to calculate the optimal threshold. Heart rate signal sampling and gray value calculation, wavelet threshold denoising, signal peaks seeking and period calculation were studied. Test results show that false and missed alarm rate of fall detection are 1.67% and 2%, average absolute error and average relative error of heart rate detection are 1.6bpm and 2.08%, which meet elderly monitoring’s need.
